Longer Commute

I came up with a longer route to work. It’s 10 miles long, basically a figure 8. This gives me a bail-out option half way, where I can either go home (if I forgot something) or go directly to work (if I get a flat or something). Pretty clever if I do say so myself.Route Map

I forgot to put on a patch yesterday, so I didn’t bother with one today, either. As a result, I have been nicotine-free for almost 2 days. Normal withdrawl symtoms are present, but fairly minor.

That’s it, I’m now an official non-smoker! Whoopee!

Trainer Ride

I put the new saddle on the Lemond. Now, I’m in the dreaded break-in period. I don’t think it hurts any worse now than the other one did, so if I gets better than this, I’ll be a happy camper.I listened to my new iPod while I was on the trainer this time. Music makes a big difference. I was just sort of listening to my music and the beatcount was sort of dictating my cadence, and before I knew it, I was 20 minutes into the ride, my hr was around 160bpm and I was sweating like a pig!

I take back all the nasty things I ever said about Apple. The iPod is a work of magic. If I didn’t know better, I’d think it was made by the elves.

Commute/ Equipment Check

Today, I finally got a real test of the fenders. The roads were wet, but it wasn’t raining. This time, the tires did not fling crusty road slime all over me.

This is also the maiden voyage of my shiny new Carradice bag. It worked out OK. I’d still like it to be a little bit bigger, but it got all my clothes here (but not my laptop or my lunch). Since I also wanted to try out the shower facilities at work, I brought along a towel. Towels take up alot of space in a bag. I think if I get creative with packing, I’ll get it all to fit.
